Cool, you’re back!
If you still remember what we talked about way back when: I’m totally sticking to Before Sunset. Both are superbly written and are very well paced, but I really felt the rush in Sunset more(most likely due to the continuous, no breaks flow it has). I remember thinking “WTF are they gonna do, he’s gonna leave soon o.O” in Sunset, but in Sunrise it was like “WTF are they gonna do, he’s go- OH wait, scene change nvm lol.”.

The thing I liked with Sunrise, is that the movie is different for everyone who sees it. I remember watching it with my at-the-time girlfriend and in the end she asked me if I thought they would go back to Vienna. I was like “Fuck yeah! I mean, were you watching the same movie as me?” but she wasn’t! In her mind, Jesse had a life back in the States and Vienna was a fleeting dream. I also love how Linklater builds character and tension from scratch. I know you saw them in the wrong order lol but with sunset, the whole deal was “These two again…omg…” and with sunrise you don’t have a clue of what the next two hours will be! Still, I’m not sure which one I like better =P

Yeah, you’re right. It was more of an order thing for me, I guess. I see how that would have made Sunrise 2x better. Although for Sunset’s favor, even though I did not know shit about the first movie, everything developed in the first 15 minutes or so. I saw the instant chemistry even when they supposedly did not meet for years and then it had me thinking “Woah shit, that’s really believable acting right thurr.”. In fact, when I thought it was a stand-alone flick, I had mad propz for the direction for making the back story incredibly believable. Soo, from a guy who watched part 2 first, Linklater made the whole back story slowly made itself known and believably so without sacrificing the pace or anything for that matter. And it wasn’t just because of my (somewhat) trained cinematic eye too: my sister saw it as well. For a sequel, that’s just…wow. Kinda funky how the whole debate seems to be centered on the sequence of which we saw first. xD.
